Vengo is a movie set in the south of Spain which looks at the lifes of some Gypsy musicians. Flamenco music and dance is featured throughout the movie. It tells a story of wrong doing and revenge and their effect on the interactions between two closely related families. Honor, vengeance, romance, love, food, drink, dance and music all play a part in this movie. Added to this are the bleak vistas of Andalucía and some realistic characters which combine to make this film an exhilarating experience. If you love Flamenco you will be blown away by this movie.

Obrigado Brazil
I have always loved music that is on the cutting edge, that is off the beaten track, or obscure. What this means is that sometimes it makes for difficult listening – but often the rewards are worth it. However, I am also a sucker for a good melody.
Probably my favorite CD and most played this year has been Yo Yo Ma’s Brazilian homage ‘Obrigado Brazil.’ I play it constantly at home and it is full of the most beautiful melodies. There are a variety of tunes including the more traditional bossa nova and samba. Some tunes sounding almost classical some not. There are a couple of Jobim tunes too. Yo Yo Ma is of course a great musician and adapts to the Brazilian rhythms easily but it’s the sound of the cello that jinds a home within this music.
A musician friend gave this CD to me a couple of years ago to learn one of the tunes for a show. He has moved on but the CD remains. In fact it remained on my bookshelf for over a year unplayed before I put it on and slowly fell in love with it. Thanks Marc.
Derelict London
I thought of my friend Steve when I cam across this site featuring photos of derelict buildings in London. Check it out here.
